Ayat al-Kursi (Verse of the Throne)
Recite after each obligatory prayer and before sleeping for protection
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۗ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa al-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fi as-samawati wa ma fi al-ard. Man dha alladhi yashfa’u ‘indahu illa bi-idhnih. Ya’lamu ma bayna aydihim wa ma khalfahum. Wa la yuhituna bishay’in min ‘ilmihi illa bima shaa’. Wasi’a kursiyyuhu as-samawati wal-ard. Wa la ya’uduhu hifdhuhuma, wa Huwa al-Aliyyul-Adhim.
Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
Dua for protection from harm
Say this dua three times in the morning and evening for protection
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma‘a ismihi shay’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i wa huwa as-sami‘ul-‘alim
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
Dua for protection from every evil
Say it when feeling vulnerable or before sleep
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا
Allahumma inni a‘udhu bika min sharri nafsi, wa min sharri kulli dabbatin anta akhithun binasiyatiha
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself and from the evil of every creature You hold by the forelock.
Dua for protection from shaytan
Say it before reading Qur’an, before sleeping, or whenever you feel disturbed
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
A‘udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.
Dua for protection before leaving home
Say it when leaving your house for protection from harm and misguidance
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah.
Seeking protection from hellfire
Say it seven times after Fajr and Maghrib prayers
اللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ
Allahumma ajirni min an-nar
O Allah, protect me from the Fire.
Dua for children’s protection
Say it seven times after Fajr and Maghrib prayers
أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
U‘idhu-kuma bikalimatillahi at-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah
I seek protection for you two in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every harmful eye.
