Meaning

Introduction

As-Salaam is the One whose essence is free from all defect and whose presence brings perfect peace. Every form of safety, tranquility, and protection originates from Him. He grants peace to the hearts of His servants, guards them from what harms their faith, and guides them to the path that leads to eternal security with Him.

Sunnah

Hadith & Wisdom

After finishing the prayer, the Prophet ﷺ would say:
“اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلَامُ، تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ”
“O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes all peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honor.” — Muslim

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not truly believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you something that will spread love between you? Spread peace (salām) among yourselves.” — Muslim

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Spread peace among yourselves.” — Muslim
(This reflects the believer’s duty to reflect the peace that comes from As-Salaam.)

Tadabbur

Reflection

To reflect on As-Salaam is to remember that true peace comes only from Allah. Hearts find no real safety in wealth, people, or circumstances. They find it in the One whose perfection brings tranquility to every servant who turns to Him. His peace protects faith, calms fear, and heals the unrest that no human effort can reach.

Remembering As-Salaam teaches the believer to seek stability through obedience, to guard the heart from sin, and to rely on Allah in moments of uncertainty. For the one who walks toward Him with sincerity, Allah grants a peace that cannot be taken by the world.

practice

How to live by His Name

Seek peace through obedience.

True tranquility comes from submitting to Allah and avoiding what harms the heart.

Spread peace among people.

Greet others with salām, forgive quickly, and avoid causing harm with words or actions.

Depend on Allah for security.

Place your trust in As-Salaam during fear, uncertainty, or hardship; He alone grants lasting peace.

Du‘ā

Supplication

اللَّهُمَّ يَا سَلَامُ، أَنْزِلِ السَّكِينَةَ فِي قَلْبِي وَاحْفَظْنِي بِحِفْظِكَ
Allahumma ya Salaam, anzil as-sakinata fi qalbi wa-hfazni bihifdhik.
O As-Salaam, place tranquility in my heart and protect me with Your protection.

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنْ عِبَادِكَ الَّذِينَ يَسْعَوْنَ لِلسَّلَامِ وَيَعِيشُونَهُ بِطَاعَتِكَ
Allahumma ajalni min ibadika alladhina yasawna lis-salam wa yaishunahu bi taatik.
O Allah, make me among Your servants who pursue peace and live it through obedience to You.
