ٱلْقُدُّوسُ

The Most Pure

Free from every flaw, beyond all imperfection.

«يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ» — Q 62:1

Meaning

Introduction

Al-Quddus is the One who is perfectly pure, free from any flaw, weakness, or imperfection. His essence is complete, His attributes are absolute, and His actions are pure justice and wisdom. Nothing unworthy can be attributed to Him. To know Al-Quddus is to recognize that all goodness, holiness, and purity originate from Him alone.

Sunnah

Hadith & Wisdom

The Prophet ﷺ used to say in rukūʿ and sujūd:
Subbūḥun Quddūsun, Rabbul-malā’ikati wa r-rūḥ.
(Most Glorified, Most Pure, Lord of the angels and the Spirit.) — Muslim

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah is pure and accepts only what is pure.” — Muslim

Reflection

To reflect on Al-Quddus is to acknowledge Allah’s absolute purity, free from every flaw and far above all that creation attributes to Him. This awareness humbles the believer and calls the heart to sincerity, discipline, and reverence. Remembering Al-Quddus inspires us to purify our intentions and actions, seeking closeness to the One whose perfection is complete.

How to live by His Name

Purify your intentions.

Strive to make every action sincerely for Allah, free from showing off or worldly motives.

Guard your conduct.

Avoid what corrupts the heart, sinful speech, doubtful actions, and impurities of character.

Seek spiritual cleanliness.

Keep your worship, your repentance, and your daily habits aligned with purity, for Al-Quddus loves purity in His servants.

Du‘ā

Supplication

اللَّهُمَّ يَا قُدُّوسُ، طَهِّرْ قَلْبِي وَعَمَلِي وَنِيَّتِي، وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ.
Allāhumma yā Quddūs, ṭahhir qalbī wa ‘amalī wa niyyatī, waj‘alnī min ‘ibādika ṣ-ṣāliḥīn.
O Al-Quddus, purify my heart, my actions, and my intentions, and make me among Your righteous servants.

اللَّهُمَّ طَهِّرْنَا مِنْ الذُّنُوبِ وَالْعُيُوبِ، وَقَرِّبْنَا إِلَيْكَ بِطَاعَتِكَ.
Allāhumma ṭahhirnā mina dh-dhunūbi wal-‘uyūb, wa qarribnā ilayka bi-ṭā‘atik.
O Allah, cleanse us from sins and faults, and bring us nearer to You through obedience.
