Al-Malik

The Sovereign

He alone owns and governs all that exists

Meaning

Introduction

Al-Malik means “The Sovereign,” the One who possesses complete authority and dominion over all creation. Everything belongs to Him, nothing moves, exists, or ends without His command. His ownership is not symbolic or shared; it is absolute and eternal. To know Al-Malik is to recognize that every power, kingdom, and possession in this world fades, while His sovereignty never ends.

Reflection

To know Al-Malik is to see that everything we own. Our time, wealth, strength, and even our breath, belongs to Him alone. Nothing in our hands is truly ours; it is all a trust from the One who rules without need and gives without limit. When the heart understands this, pride fades and humility takes its place. We stop chasing control and begin seeking His approval. Al-Malik reminds us that real power is not in possessing, but in submitting. For true peace is found only under His sovereignty.

Supplication

Allāhumma Mālika l-mulk, tu’tī l-mulka man tashā’, wa tanzi‘u l-mulka mimman tashā’, wa tu‘izzu man tashā’, wa tudhillu man tashā’, biyadika l-khayr, innaka ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr.
O Allah, Owner of all sovereignty, You give power to whom You will and take it away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things Powerful.

Allāhumma aj‘alnī mimman yarḍā bimulkik, wa yakhda‘u liḥukmik, wa yaskunu qalbuhu bi-qaḍā’ik.
O Allah, make me among those who are content with Your rule, humble before Your command, and at peace with Your decree.
