How is God in Islam ?
What is Islam ?
In Islam, God is Allah.
The name "Allah" is derived from "Al-Ilah," which means "The God." This signifies the supreme and singular deity, distinct from any false gods or idols. Allah is unique, singular, and unparalleled. The concept of God in Islam is fundamentally monotheistic, emphasizing the oneness of God as the most central and defining characteristic of the faith.
The word "Islam" comes from the Arabic root "S-L-M," which means peace, submission, and obedience. In the context of religion, Islam means "submission to the will of God."
What means to be a Muslim ?
A Muslim is someone who submits to the will of God, believes in and follows the teachings of Islam, worships Allah SWT, follows the Quran, and adheres to the practices, ethical principles, and guidance of Prophet Muhammad SAW as found in the Hadiths and Sunnah.
What makes you a Muslim ?
To become a Muslim, one must believe in the oneness of God (Allah SWT), understanding that Allah is not a created being or an idol. It also involves believing in all the prophets from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all), with Muhammad SAW recognized as the final prophet. This inner belief is expressed outwardly by taking the Shahada, the declaration of faith.
The Sahada - The declaration of faith
Transliteration: “Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allah, Wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulu-Allah.”
Translation: “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
First steps as a new Muslim
Once you take your Shahada, congratulations, you are now a Muslim. All your previous sins have been forgiven by the Mercy of Allah (SWT).
Now, as you take your first steps as a Muslim, it is important to seek knowledge. If you are able in your location, visit a mosque or a Muslim community and ask for guidance, this is the best way to start developing connections with your brothers and sisters in Islam. If you are unable to do so, the first and most important thing you need to do is learn how to pray, learn the method of prayer, the prayer times, and how to perform ablution (wudu). Prayer is crucial because when you pray, Allah forgives your sins and bestows blessings and good deeds upon you.
Another important aspect is to understand what is halal and haram, meaning what is permissible and not permissible. This is significant because Islam means submission to God, and halal and haram are the boundaries set by God to keep us on the righteous path. Allah says that if you unknowingly commit a sin (haram), He will not hold you accountable for it. This means that if you do something wrong and later discover it is forbidden, you can seek forgiveness, but Allah has already forgiven you because you did not know. However, this does not mean you should remain ignorant, you should always seek knowledge to become a better person and a better Muslim, thereby pleasing Allah (SWT).
May Allah (SWT) bless you and guide you on your journey as a Muslim.
How is the prophet of Islam ?
The prophet of Islam is Muhammad (SAW). Islam includes all prophets from Adam (AS) to Muhammad (SAW), but it was Muhammad (SAW) who propagated the faith through the Quran. The Quran was revealed by Allah to the angel Jibril (Gabriel), who then transmitted it to Muhammad (SAW) over a period of 23 years. This guidance came during a time of indecency, idolatry, and other wrongful practices, leading people towards monotheism and righteous living.
